How do you simplify the battery manufacturing story for UKRI’s Faraday programme?
PROBLEM
The Faraday battery challenge, run by UKRI, invests in research and innovation projects, and facilities, to drive the growth of a strong battery business in the UK. The initial investment from 2017-2022 was £541 million. An extension was granted in 2022, so the challenge now ends in March 2025, and for this next phase, they wanted to improve upon their marketing communications. Working with Mettle PR, we were asked to design three infographics and numerous icons to visualise all parts of the programme.
OUTCOME
Over the course of a couple of months, the designs developed from an initial workshop, through numerous video calls, to what we see here. With the infographics, we used the visual analogy of a circuit board to run through the steps involved. For the icons, we created a repeatable icon style, with a thin dotted line, and applied it to literal and abstract descriptors.
DELIVERABLES
- Icons x 40
- Infographics x 3

“Our client, UK Research & Innovation, required a set of icons for various aspects of the Faraday battery programme. The outcome has delivered an improvement in clarity and consistency throughout the programme.”
