Graphics that engaged stakeholders and explained climate risk.

CHALLENGE

Climate change is impacting the residents of the West Midlands. Therefore, the West Midlands Combined Authority, in collaboration with scientists at the University of Birmingham, needed to find an engaging way to communicate these impacts to their local population.

OUTCOME

The rich infographics played a crucial role in an outreach communications package designed to facilitate deeper conversations between the West Midlands Combined Authority, its citizens, and stakeholders. The main goal of raising awareness on this topic is to help citizens better prepare for a future impacted by climate change.

DELIVERABLES

  • Infographics x 5

Infographic 1: We created this 3D isometric image depicting the key areas and coloured them with the Viridis colour scheme (colour-blind friendly) to show which areas were at greatest risk. Shown in yellow, they typically had less vegetation and more buildings.

Infographic 2: Mapping community climate risks.

Infographic 3: The same basis as graphic one, but focuses on the impacts on transport systems, rather than the community.

Infographic 4: Mapping the transport system climate risks.

Infographic 5: Responding to climate change.

“Understanding the impacts of climate change can be difficult. The graphics we created enabled our partner, West Midlands Combined Authority, to engage with their citizens and stakeholders regarding climate risk and what they can do to help prepare themselves.”
