Graphic Designer: Interfleet PowerPoint

Background: Interfleet has been at the cutting edge of International Rail Technology Consultancy for over a decade. Many of their five-hundred strong staff rely on PowerPoint to deliver their presentations to clients.

Brief: To update the existing PowerPoint front page to reflect on the global aspirations of the company.

Approach: Taking consideration of the existing design, I worked with Interfleet's Marketing Communications Manager to develop the PowerPoint front page that reflected Interfleet's technological prowess as well as their long standing reputation for reliability.

Result: The PowerPoint cover slide is now in use across the European divisions of the company and will soon be rolled out to all the regional offices in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and North America.

Onyx Branding

Brand Identity Design: Onyx

Background: An electrician with 20 years experience in the business approached me with an idea to unite all trades people. This would be done by protecting them by compiling, maintaining and selling a database of professional non-payers, otherwise known as ‘Cowboy Clients’.

Brief: In order to take his idea to the next level I needed to develop a business name, a tag-line, a logo and a complete brand identity.

Approach: This business is about taking one tradespersons bad experience of not being paid and creating some good out of it. This is done by taking steps to prevent it from happening to another tradesperson. I chose the brand name of Onyx because an Onyx stone is a quartz crystal that absorbs bad energy and emits positive energy.

Result: Onyx: Cutting out the professional non-payers, is to be launched in March 2010 through a spectrum of trade magazines, telesales and online marketing. I'll feed back to you in the next newsletter on all the upcoming developments including their new website.

Design Consultant: TATA Beverages

“Wow. Thank you so much for organising this Will. The award is simply beautiful.” Katie Tufnell, TATA Beverages, (commissioned the piece).

Background: A loyal staff member at TATA Beverages was called upon to project manage the new intranet for TATA Beverages worldwide.

Brief: To commission a commemorative award that embodied the TATA intranet brand and the project plan.

Approach: As a 29-year-old guy, I fully admit that I still don’t know what women want, so I collaborated with Ingrid Pears. Ingrid is an award winning glass designer who has created awards for numerous influential people including the Dalai Lama. We worked up the ideas to develop the glass bowl and the complementary glass piece that represents the project plan.

Result: A delighted Philippa was awarded the piece at the 2009 Christmas dinner. The glass bowl now sits centre stage on the dresser in her living room.

Presenter: My 2009 Book Launch

Background: Two and a half years in the writing, it was finally time to launch my first book, 'Around the World in 80 Handbags.' Using the goodwill of my local clients, friends and family I brought them all together for one special evening.

Brief: To deliver an authentic experience to launch my book.

Approach: The crowd packed into the two-hundred-year-old venue, nibbled on my mother’s canapés and drank the Pernod based 'Handbag Surprise' cocktail. My talk started with a video that captured the highlights of the book and finalised on the quote, "Life is not about what you own, life is about what you do." Then a soprano singer sang four ballads before I finished off the evenings entertainment by reading my favourite piece from the book and then signing books. Re-live the evening here.

Result: As a result of the book launch and associated marketing activities that included a BBC Wiltshire radio interview, attending the St.Catherine Street Artisan Fair and winning the Mere Chamber of Commerce new business award I have sold out the first edition. Copies of the signed second edition are now available from the website.

Next Step: I'm planning a revised third edition (with ISBN) for April 2010 to co-inside with the start of my inspirational travel talks (for Corporations, Travel Clubs and Schools). Do contact me if you would like an inspirational travel talk for your business.
